Revisions to Writing Portfolio
In my writing portfolio I have a few revisions to make. I want to first add links on my home page to email me, and to my blog. On my sub pages I need to add links to my drafts and peer reviews. I might change my font of my titles. I want to also revise what I have written in my biography. I also need to make corrections to my works I have completed through out the course.

There are a few revisions I need to make on my audio slide show script. I need to first of all add a title page with my name, title and date. I need to come up with a title. I need to change some conjunctions. I need to also break up my information into more slides. So they are not as long.

Audio Slide Show Topics
In the midst of a Drought
I live in a rural farming community. We are surrounded by corn and soybeans. This summer my surrounding
environment has suffered greatly. We are experiencing a drought. Some people might think droughts are the thing of the past. The technology we have today prevents are crops from suffering from such a disaster. This is an untrue fact. Some of the farmers in my community do have irrigation systems to help with the relentless weather but others do not. Some farmers have estimated they will grow so much crops and already have sold that to consumers. Unfortunately they will come up short and not be able to produce that amount. This is an important topic because it will in directly affect every consumer. The estimated amount of crops produced this year with be off. This means with a shortage of crops, the prices of corn and soybeans will go up. The cattle and livestock producers will may more for their feed and in turn charge more for their products. This drought will not only affect this years prices but next years as well. This is because next year we will be starting off with a shortage. Consumers should keep the fact in mind that not only will vegetable prices, but other good prices will be going up; when they are purchasing anything.
Starting off the School Year Right
I know I am excited to go back to school to see my boyfriend and all my friends. I am just thinking of all the fun activities we can do on the weekend. All of the activities and events at Purdue's main campus can be over whelming. Upcoming freshmen need to remember when they get there, the purpose of college is to get an education. Yes it is so much fun but school and studying needs to come first. Upcoming freshmen need to be aware of the traps that will start them off on the wrong foot. Parties, staying up to late and missing class, and over scheduling all these fun activities and prioritizing school work first.
The experiences I have had at college will definitely stay with me for a life time. I want those memories to be positive ones, I can look back and happily laugh at. In coming students at any college need to recognize the traps that will hinder their college experience. They need to be educated on them, prioritize, and always keep in mind why you are there, to get an education.

Just be Nice
I completely agree with the author of this article. We should feel blessed to live in this country. Everywhere some goes to live there will be some flaws but in America we have rights people literally die for in other countries. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are just two examples, of rights that some people in this country take for granted. In Galatians chapter 5 verse 13, Apostle Paul says "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love". Regardless or not if you are a believer, this verse is an excellent example for Americans to understand. Being born in America we think we have the right to do whatever we want, but people need to have the view that these rights are just privileges. The men that wrote the Bill of Rights wrote them so that Americans could be free and live happy life's. In our society people do not realize the conditions these rights were written under and we unfortunately abuse them. As Americans we should realize we have the freedom to choose, but also realize there are consequences to our choices. Consequences that do not only effect us but can negatively effect others around us. We should be more considerate of others' feelings around us. If we could keep these simple truths in mind, we could stop living for our selfishness and in turn be happier
Us and Them Analysis
My initial reaction to this piece was I found it very entertaining. The author describes how he basically stalked a family, the Tomkeys, that he thought was out of the ordinary because they didn't own a television. The author would stand outside this family's window and watch them eat dinner. He pitied the childern because they were deprived or ignorant of aspects of life because they hadn't learned them from watching television. I think it's the author who should have been pitied, because he thought the important things in life were knowing who Elmer Fudd was and Halloween candy. The way the author describe how he and his sisters reacted to giving their Halloween candy away, I think that this was quite commical and ironic. The author thought the Tomkeys were crazy, when he would put his self in anaphylaxis because he was greedy. The Tomkeys seemed to have a fuller life, they went on trips to the lake, they had more family socializing. Compared to the author's family, who sat in front of the televison most of the time. I personally could careless if I didn't have a computer or television. I think this article was filled with irony of how one person can think one family's way of life this is strange, when their own way of life is just as strange.
Organ Sales Will Save Lives
Donating and selling organs is irascible subject to some people. Whether is it morally right or wrong is an argument that is not easily won. The bottom line is that it is true, if organ sales from living donors was legallized and regulated many lives would be saved. I would without a doubt donate an organ to a friend or family member in need of one. However, I personally believe that it is morally wrong to sell an organ. The intentions the sellers would probably have aren't the ones of a person donating out of the kindness of their heart. They would be selling a kidney for their own selfish reasons. How many people could actually afford a $150,000 organ? If someone could not afford to buy one, is it to bad for them?
I know our world is centered around money and not feelings toward others. I think that people have freedom to choose what they do with their own bodies and the reasons why they do that are their own.

Some Like it Hot
Piracy is the illegal reproduction or use of something copyrighted. Piracy of media is as old as Thomas Edison. This article gives a brief history of piracy and copy right laws in the media. I was initially interested in this piece. Piracy, illegally downloading music and movies is an often heard topic in today's technologically advanced world. Most people downloading free music do not even realize what they are doing is illegal. I agree with the author that the law should seek a balance between protection of the law and public interest. I listen to music almost all day, but unfortunately as a college student I am not able to spend as much as I would like on it. I think downloading music should be free. If I really like an artist I will then go and pay to see them in concert or buy their memorabilia.
Analysis on Anti-Intellectualism: Why We Hate the Smart Kids
As an Arizona high school celebrates for winning the Arizona State Football Championship, little does the school know that the school has also won three acadamic championships. This is an unfortunate reality for most high school's. Athletics shine while academics are pushed to the side, buy why? The author of this article gives two reasons to this appauling truth. The first reason is the social classes and stereotypes in high school. A person being labeled a "nerd" isn't something that some people strive to be known as. When they are labeled as such, they are excluded from social activities, and become anti-social. The second reason the author gives is that an education isn't needed to become successful. Celebrities like Kid Rock and Sammy Sosa were high school drop outs. Regardless of the reasoning behind the anti-intellectualism, the "nerds" that are being bullied are people, with feelings. These so called "nerds" are the ones who are helping build our society today, its sad that we would look down upon them.
My initial reaction to this article was, I felt bad for our society. It is quite pathetic that that is what our society had come to. Not all of our society but some people's priorities are askewed. We live in a competitive world. Where we are literally competing with the world to become successful. An education is a necessay element in becoming successful. I agree with the author ostracizing students for their accomplishments is devastating. I was victim of bullying in junior high school. I am now a strong advocate against bullying. I believe whole heartedly in the saying "do unto others as you'd have them do unto you". These intellectual individuals need to be praised, they need to feel proud of their achievements.
My initial reaction to this article was, I felt bad for our society. It is quite pathetic that that is what our society had come to. Not all of our society but some people's priorities are askewed. We live in a competitive world. Where we are literally competing with the world to become successful. An education is a necessay element in becoming successful.
